Heat treating is essential for high quality aerospace components

Heat treating is the application of heat or cold to alter the metallurgical properties of a metal part. The treatment is applied to harden, soften, or relieve stress on the metal without changing the part shape.

In addition to increasing the strength of a metal part, heat treating can also be used to improve machining, improve formability, or restore ductility after a cold forming operation

Post Heat Treatment, some OEMs require UT Inspection to ensure quality

Ultrasonic nondestructive testing, also known as ultrasonic NDT or simply UT, is a method of characterizing the thickness or internal structure of a test piece through the use of high frequency sound waves.

The frequencies, or pitch, used for ultrasonic testing are many times higher than the limit of human hearing, most commonly in the range from 500 KHz to 20 MHz

Precision Waterjet Cutting for smoother finished edges

Waterjet cutting production processes uses a high-pressure water jet along with an abrasive substance to cut materials. Waterjet reduces the risk of internal structures of the material being compromised by sawcutting which increases surface temperature in the cutting process. Waterjet cutting is also great for cutting sharp corners, complex shapes and holes, and the amount of material that goes to waste during this process is minimal for LEAN results

Fighter Jet Metals is one of the leading providers in forging Titanium, Stainless Steel, and other Exotic metals in the Aerospace industry.

For long term projects with at least a 5 week lead time and a minimum of 1,500 pounds, Fighter Jet Metals knows exactly how to vertically integrate the supply chain by sourcing Ingot, forging it to your needs, inspecting it for quality, and ensuring safe delivery.

Laser cutting is a technology that uses a laser to slice materials. Laser cutting works by directing the output of a high-power laser most commonly through optics.

The Laser Optics and CNC are used to direct the material or the laser beam generated. The focused laser beam is directed at the material, which then either melts, burns, vaporizes away, or is blown away by a jet of gas, leaving an edge with a high-quality surface finish.

Shearing is a cost effective option compared to Laser Cutting process that’s used to trim and cut sheet metal. It allows Fighter Jet Metals to slice through sheet metal with extreme precision.

Shearing doesn’t require the use of heat because sheet metal is typically sheared while cold or at room temperature. It also doesn’t produce waste in the form of chips, making it an attractive choice for our customers.

Gundrilling is a deep hole drilling process that uses a long, thin cutting tool to produce holes in metal at high depth-to-diameter ratios. Gun drilling is effective in diameters from 0.04in-2.00in.

The gundrilling process is able to drill deep holes beyond what is possible with conventional machinery and tooling such as twist drills, by using high pressure coolant for clean chip exhaust, even at extreme depths.

A lathe is a machining tool that is used primarily for shaping metal or wood. It works by rotating the workpiece around a stationary cutting tool.

The main use is to remove unwanted parts of the material, leaving behind a nicely shaped workpiece. As pictured here this material needed some rough turning and grinding lathe work to remove excess discrepancies.

Trepanning is the process of taking a large Bar and converting it to a tube and is commonly used for the Oil and Energy industries. In some cases an Inner Diameter may be impossible to find for Tubing which is what makes Trepanning an option in sourcing Large Tubes

Customers interested in this process should make sure to check with the OEM before proceeding with a design change.

Plate Saw Cutting is generally the quickest process of getting your plate to its correct sizes by cutting the width and the length to near rectangular shapes.

Fighter Jet Metals plate saws are capable of cutting from 0.1875″THK all the way up to 32.00″THK for all grades including Titanium, Stainless Steel, Nickel, Alloy Steel, Aluminum, and other grades.

Some companies cut all metals on the same machine which if not cleaned beforehand can lead to foreign materials being introduced to your material. Fighter Jet Metals has implemented strict quality control in its plate saw cutting process to prevent this.

Bar Saw Cutting is a cost effective process of getting your Round Bar and Flat Bar to its correct sizes and ready for CNC machining.

Fighter Jet Metals bar saws are capable of cutting from 0.125″dia all the way up to 38.00″dia for all grades including Titanium, Stainless Steel, Nickel, Alloy Steel, Aluminum, and other grades.

Some companies cut all metals on the same machine which if not cleaned beforehand can lead to foreign materials being introduced to your material. Fighter Jet Metals has implemented strict quality control in its bar saw cutting process to prevent this.

Grinding is exactly what the name suggests. Grinding down material to achieve a size not normally produced is something Fighter Jet Metals assists our customers with.

We offer flat sheet grinding and surface finish services on a variety of alloys, with the ability to grind sheets down as thin as 0.008”THK

For Plate products we can process plate as thick as 12.00”THK

For Round Bar we have the capability to take certain diameters and bring them to a size that works for your project while also maintaining the product quality. Customers interested in this process should check with OEMs before pursuing this option. In addition to checking with OEMs, please note that in some cases grinding round bar requires straightening after the process.
