NICKEL 718 PER AMS 5663
Nickel 718, also known as Inconel 718, is a high-strength, corrosion-resistant nickel-chromium alloy. It is particularly renowned for its exceptional mechanical properties and resistance to a wide range of corrosive environments. One of the most notable specifications that governs the production and use of this alloy is AMS 5663.
Nickel 718 is generally produced to AMS 5662 but when age hardened it can be converted to AMS 5663 (with a tensile test) unless already produced by the mill at AMS 5663.
To AMS 5663, Nickel 718 per AMS 5662 is heat treated at 1325°F for 8 hrs, cooled at a rate of 100°F/hr until it reaches 1150°F, then held at 1150°F for 8hrs minimum, + Air Cooled.
Applications of NICKEL 718 per AMS 5663
AEROSPACE
NICKEL 718 per AMS 5663 is used in aircraft and spacecraft components, including engine parts, combustion chambers, and structural elements, due to its strength and resistance to high temperatures.
OIL & GAS
Nickel 718 is employed in downhole tools and wellhead components for its corrosion resistance in aggressive oil and gas environments.
POWER GENERATION
Nickel 718 per AMS 5663 is used in gas turbine components, such as turbine blades and discs, due to its high-temperature strength and creep resistance.
CHEMICAL PROCESSING
Nickel 718’s resistance to corrosive chemicals makes it valuable in applications involving aggressive acids and chemicals.
