Nickel 718, Also known as Inconel 718, is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-chromium alloy also containing significant amounts of iron, niobium and molybdenum along with lesser amounts of aluminum and titanium.
It combines corrosion resistance and high strength with outstanding weldability, including resistance to post-weld cracking. The alloy has excellent creep-rupture strength at temperatures to 1300°F (700°C)
Overall, Nickel 718 is a versatile and highly reliable material that is used in a wide range of applications due to its unique combination of strength, corrosion resistance, and high temperature performance. It is an essential material for many industries and is likely to continue to be in high demand for the foreseeable future.
Weldability of NICKEL 718
Because of a relatively slow aging reaction rate, welding Nickel 718 does not present the problems associated with most other high-temperature precipitation hardening alloys. INCONEL 718 may be welded in either the annealed or precipitation hardened condition. Accordingly, the alloy may be repair welded without difficulty.
