6Al-6V-2Sn Titanium Alloy for Aerospace Applications
6Al-6V-2Sn (Ti-6Al-6V-2Sn, also known as Ti-662) is a high-strength alpha-beta titanium alloy that achieves greater strength than the standard 6Al-4V grade through heat treatment. It is used where maximum strength-to-weight performance is required and the lower workability compared to 6Al-4V is acceptable.
The alloy combines the corrosion resistance and low density of titanium with strength levels comparable to heat-treated steel, making it well suited for aerospace structural components, missile airframes, and high-strength fasteners. It is processed primarily in bar, billet, and forging form and responds well to solution treatment and aging.
6Al-4V is recommended for use at temperatures from -350° to 750°F (-210° to 400°C). Applications outside this temperature range are possible in certain situations. The alloy is weldable. Complex shapes can be made via hot forming. It machines like an austenitic stainless steel.
