5Al-2.5Sn & ELI Titanium Alloy
5Al-2.5Sn & ELI , also named Grade 6, is an alpha titanium alloy used for aerospace components that must perform at higher temperatures, be readily welded, and retain their microstructure. It has about 5% aluminum and 2.5% tin. These elements increase its strength without sacrificing titanium’s lightness and corrosion resistance.
Unlike other titanium alloys, Ti-5Al-2.5Sn is not heat treatable. Its properties are achieved through the combination of elements and the process used to manufacture it. It has good oxidation resistance and microstructural stability, with a lifespan up to 480°C (896°F).
Due to its good combination of moderate strength, weldability, and high temperature properties, the alloy is commonly used for aircraft structures and engine components.
