Nickel 601 per AMS 5715 - Heat- and Corrosion-Resistant Alloy
Nickel 601 per AMS 5715 and indicated by the UNS designation N06601 has an austenitic composition and contains chromium, iron, and nickel. It has been designed with great resistance to corrosion and high temperature. It specifically refers to a specification that calls for heat-resistant bars, forgings, and rings made out of the metallic compound in an annealed condition.
Nickel 601 owes its ability to remain strong and stable even through long-term operation at high temperatures approaching 2200°F (1200°C), while at the same time maintaining a quality surface finish, to its excellent combination of nickel, chromium, and aluminum.
Key Properties of Nickel 601 per AMS 5715
- Excellent oxidation resistance up to 2200 °F (1200 °C)
- Strong resistance to carburization and sulfur-bearing atmospheres
- Retains ductility and toughness after long-term service
- Easily fabricated and welded using standard techniques
- High mechanical strength and creep resistance at elevated temperatures
APPLICATIONS Of Nickel 601
Catalyst support grids in nitric acid production
Steam superheater tube supports
Thermocouple protection tubes
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NICKEL 600 AND NICKEL 601?
As compared to Nickel 600 alloy (UNS Designation N06600), Nickel 601 alloy has, in addition to increased chromium, an aluminum content which together provide outstanding resistance to oxidation. In addition, Nickel 601 alloy has good resistance to environments containing carbon and sulfur and this alloy also resists aqueous corrosion.
