Nickel 617 per AMS 5887 Bars, Forgings, and Rings
Nickel 617 per the AMS 5887 (UNS N06617) is an alloy of nickel, chromium, cobalt, and molybdenum designed for exceptional strength, best-in-class oxidation, and exceptional high-temperature stability. The specification indicates corrosion and high-temperature resistant bars, forgings, and rings produced via CEM or VIM processes and annealed.
Thanks to its excellent metallurgical properties and high mechanical properties, Nickel 617 per AMS 5887 has many important applications in aerospace turbines, in heat treating, and in petrochemical processing, where materials are subjected to extreme conditions involving high temperatures and intense pressures with good reliability.
Key Properties of Inconel 617
- Excellent oxidation resistance up to 1800°F (980°C)
- Outstanding tensile and creep strength at elevated temperatures
- Stable microstructure for long-term service in high-stress conditions
- Resistance to carburizing and sulfidizing atmospheres
- Superior formability and weldability for complex components
Product Forms & Size Range
Fighter Jet Metals supplies Nickel 617 per AMS 5887 starting at 0.500″ Diameter up to 7.00″ Diameter
Corrosion and Oxidation Resistance
Chromium with aluminum offers oxidation resistance; on the other hand, with the incorporation of molybdenum and cobalt, the material obtains added strength as well as stability in the presence of reducing carburizing species and sulfidizing conditions. Nickel 617 has retained excellent ductility and integrity even in the presence of long-term thermal cycling as well as adverse conditions.
