QQ-S-764 – Federal Specification for Free-Machining Stainless Steel Bars
QQ-S-764 is a former U.S. Federal Specification that covered corrosion-resisting, free-machining stainless steel bars, including 416 Stainless Steel. Fighter Jet Metals provides full traceability for materials previously certified under this specification and now supplied according to its superseding standards, ASTM A484 and ASTM A582.
This specification defined requirements for stainless steel bars used in machining-intensive applications where corrosion resistance, strength, and workability were essential. Though QQ-S-764 has been officially superseded, it remains a historical reference in defense, aerospace, and industrial manufacturing documentation.
Applications of QQ-S-764
- Valve Components and Pump Shafts
- Gears, Studs, and Bolts
- Fasteners and Machine Parts
- Motor Shafts and Axles
- Aerospace Fittings and Bushings
Superseded by ASTM Standards
QQ-S-764B (Notice 1), dated September 8, 1975, was officially superseded by:
- ASTM A484: General requirements for stainless steel bars, billets, and forgings.
- ASTM A582: Specification for free-machining stainless steel bars, including 416, 420F, and related grades.
