AMS 5549 Stainless Steel
AMS 5549 includes AM 355 corrosion- and heat-resistant stainless steel plate, which is provided in the solution heat treated condition. This alloy has a tendency to operate at approximately 15.5% chromium, 4.5% nickel, 2.9% molybdenum, and nitrogen, providing strength, corrosion resistance, and overall performance at high temperatures.
This spec establishes the requirements for chemical composition, heat treatment condition, mechanical properties, and quality for plate materials used for aerospace and other high-performance applications.
AMS 5549 Typical Applications
AMS 5549 AM 355 plate is commonly used in aerospace and high-performance mechanical systems.
Typical applications include:
• Gas turbine components
• Aerospace structural parts
• Compressor assemblies
• High-strength fabricated components
• Structural plates exposed to corrosive environments
What is AM 355 Stainless Steel ?
AM 355 (SOMETIMES KNOWN AS PYROMET 355) is a chromium nickel molybdenum stainless steel. It is a heat treatable austenitic / martensitic alloy (depending on the heat treatment). The properties of AM355 are that of strength of a heat treatable martensitic grades with the corrosion resistance of some of the chromium nickel austenitic grades.
