Nickel 600 per AMS 5665
Nickel 600, specified as AMS 5665 (UNS N06600), is a nickel-chromium alloy that has been formulated to provide great resistance to corrosion at high temperatures, along with reasonable stability in terms of mechanical performance. It’s well known for resisting chloride‑ion stress‑corrosion cracking, caustic attack, and corrosion from high‑purity water; thus, it is widely used in several industries, ranging from industrial to chemical, nuclear, and aerospace.
This nickel-chromium combination allows this alloy to have excellent resistance in both reducing and oxidizing conditions and remains in a highly workable and formable state. Nickel 600 per AMS 5665 isn’t precipitation‑hardened; its strength mainly comes from cold working.
- High oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures
- Excellent resistance to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking
- Resistant to caustic and high-purity water corrosion
- Stable mechanical properties under long-term thermal exposure
- Non-precipitation hardenable, strengthened by cold work
- Furnace components and industrial heating systems
- Chemical and food processing equipment
- Nuclear engineering components
- Sparking electrodes
- Aerospace and industrial engine components
Corrosion and Heat Resistance
Nickel 600 per AMS 5665 performs exceptionally well in:
- Moderate reducing environments
- Weak oxidizing atmospheres
- Chloride-containing solutions
The alloy provides reliable performance under high temperature and corrosive conditions, though it is not recommended for strong oxidizing acids like hot concentrated nitric acid.
