422 Stainless Steel
422 Stainless Steel is a hardenable martensitic stainless steel used for applications up to 1200°F (649°C). Fighter Jet Metals offers 422 Stainless Steel for critical aerospace and turbine components that call for high-strength properties combined with good oxidation resistance and stability during long-term heat exposure.
With proper heat treatment, 422 Stainless Steel offers good hardness, creep resistance, and corrosion resistance for static and rotating high-temperature components. With its chromium content, 422 offers good oxidation resistance while molybdenum, tungsten, and vanadium work together to retain its high-strength properties even when exposed to high temperatures.
Applications of 422 Stainless Steel
- Steam and Gas Turbine Blades and Buckets
- Compressor Parts and Aircraft Engine Components
- High-Temperature Bolting and Fasteners
- Valve Components and Hot-Section Hardware
- Power Generation and Petrochemical Equipment
Material Characteristics
422 Stainless Steel has superior resistance against scaling than the regular martensitic series like 410 and 420. It can be heat treated to have properties close to the nickel-based series while retaining the stainless properties. It remains magnetic in all conditions and can be machined well in the annealed state.
