TECHNICAL INFORMATION FOR AMS 5617
Custom 455, which is covered in AMS 5617, is a premium grade of aircraft steel alloy that is known for its excellent resistance to corrosion and is used for bars, wires, forgings, and forging stock. This precipitation-hardenable steel alloy provides excellent mechanical properties and excellent resistance to corrosion. Custom 455 is produced using Vacuum Induction followed by Vacuum Consumable Electrode Melting and solution heat treatment, which provides excellent metallurgical consistency. This steel alloy has excellent properties due to the presence of 12% Chromium, 8.5% Nickel, 1.2% Titanium, and 2.0% Copper.
APPLICATIONS of AMS 5617
- Aerospace structural components and landing gear
- High-strength fasteners, shafts, and bushings
- Corrosion-resistant industrial tooling
- Precision mechanical parts requiring high fatigue strength
What is Custom 450,455,465 Stainless Steel ?
The trademarks Custom 450, Custom 455, and Custom 465 of Carpenter Technology Corporation represent martensitic, age-hardenable stainless steel alloys. These are produced through patented processes that offer enhanced corrosion resistance, moderate strength, and excellent machinability. These are generally supplied in the annealed condition, and in most instances, no special treatment is required.
