AM 355 STAINLESS STEEL
AMS 5744 is an aerospace material specification that includes requirements for AM 355 corrosion and heat-resisting stainless steel bars, forgings, and forging stock material. Material covered by the AMS 5744 specification is supplied in a heat treated condition with a minimum tensile strength rating of 170 ksi (1172 MPa).
The AMS 5744 specification includes requirements for chemical composition, heat treating, mechanical properties, and quality standards for aerospace bar and forging materials.
AMS 5744 Typical Applications
AMS 5744 AM 355 material is used in aerospace and high-performance mechanical systems where higher strength levels are required.
Typical applications include:
• Gas turbine compressor components
• Motor and drive shafts
• Aerospace structural hardware
• High-strength machined components
• Aircraft engine components
What is AM 355 Stainless Steel ?
AM 355 (SOMETIMES KNOWN AS PYROMET 355) is a chromium nickel molybdenum stainless steel. It is a heat treatable austenitic / martensitic alloy (depending on the heat treatment). The properties of AM355 are that of strength of a heat treatable martensitic grades with the corrosion resistance of some of the chromium nickel austenitic grades.
