5Al-2.5Sn Titanium per AMS 4909 (ELI)
AMS 4909 is a titanium alloy for aerospace applications, which is Ti-5Al-2.5Sn ELI and is available in sheet, strip, and plate products. This is part of the alpha family of titanium alloys and is often chosen for aircraft components that require good mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and high-temperature properties.
The 5% Al and 2.5% Sn content of the alloy imparts it with strength properties while retaining the light weight and corrosion resistance of titanium. The ELI content of AMS 4909 helps control the content of oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, and iron, thereby providing the material with both toughness and ductility.
What is 5Al-2.5Sn & ELI Titanium ?
5Al-2.5Sn & ELI , also named Grade 6, is an alpha titanium alloy used for aerospace components that must perform at higher temperatures, be readily welded, and retain their microstructure. It has about 5% aluminum and 2.5% tin. These elements increase its strength without sacrificing titanium’s lightness and corrosion resistance.
