AMS-T-9047 - 6Al-6V-2Sn Titanium Alloy Bars, Billets, and Forgings
AMS-T-9047 is the specification for 6Al-6V-2Sn Titanium Alloy bars, billets, and forgings. The 6Al-6V-2Sn alloy is a high-strength alpha-beta titanium alloy that develops higher tensile strength than 6Al-4V in the solution treated and aged condition, making it the choice for the most highly stressed aerospace structural components where 6Al-4V cannot meet the design requirements.
AMS-T-9047 bars and forgings are used in high-strength airframe fittings, wing attachments, landing gear structural members, and other primary structure applications on military and commercial aircraft. The alloy offers excellent fracture toughness and fatigue resistance in the STA condition.
6Al-4V is recommended for use at temperatures from -350° to 750°F (-210° to 400°C). Applications outside this temperature range are possible in certain situations. The alloy is weldable. Complex shapes can be made via hot forming. It machines like an austenitic stainless steel.
