ASTM A29
ASTM A29 is the Standard Specification for Steel Bars, Carbon and Alloy, Hot-Wrought, General Requirements. It is not a product specification itself but rather a requirements document that is referenced alongside a specific grade specification (such as ASTM A322 for alloy steel bars). ASTM A29 defines general chemical requirements, permissible variations in dimensions, surface condition, heat treatment, and testing for hot-wrought carbon and alloy steel bars.
Hot-wrought steel bar per ASTMA29 is used for aerospace and defense structural components, forging stock, machined parts, and structural bar applications where the hot-worked microstructure and properties are appropriate.
ASTM A29 covers carbon and alloy steel bar in rounds, squares, hexagons, and flats in the hot-rolled, normalized, annealed, or quenched and tempered condition depending on grade. Chemical composition ranges and permissible variations per applicable grade specification. Surface condition and dimensional tolerances per ASTMA29 tables.
