SPS‑M‑663 – MP159 Cobalt‑Nickel Alloy
SPS-M-663 specifies that the MP159, a cobalt-nickel multiphase alloy, has ultra-high strength, excellent toughness, superior corrosion resistance, and high ductility. It’s made for the toughest environments, where strength and resistance to corrosion are important, especially at high temperatures.
As stated in the specification, the MP159 starts off as a vacuum induction melted (VIM) and then vacuum arc remelted (VAR), which offers tight composition control, uniform microstructure, and a minimum of inclusions. Then, the work hardening and aging of the alloy yield ultimate tensile strengths above 1830 MPa, still maintaining excellent ductility.
Product Forms & Size Range of SPS-M-663
MP 159 Round Bar per SPS-M-663 diameters range from 0.125″ to 7.00″ diameter.
Mechanical Properties & Processing of SPS-M-663
This Specification achieves its exceptional performance through:
- Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM): Removes impurities, ensuring high-purity alloy.
- Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR): Refines microstructure, improves homogeneity, and eliminates residual defects.
- Work Strengthening: Introduces dislocations that increase strength while maintaining ductility.
- Aging (Precipitation Hardening): Forms fine precipitates that enhance tensile strength without sacrificing ductility.
The combination of these processes produces an alloy suitable for extreme mechanical and environmental conditions, maintaining integrity up to 1100–1200°F (593-649°C).
