TECHNICAL INFORMATION FOR AMS 5863
AMS 5863 refers to a product known as Custom 450, a corrosion-resistant martensitic stainless steel that is available in sheet, strip, and plate form. It is a precipitation-hardened product that offers excellent strength, superior corrosion resistance, and stability in critical service applications. The chemical composition is composed of 15% chromium, 6.5% nickel, 0.75% molybdenum, 0.60% niobium (Cb), and 1.5% copper, providing excellent corrosion resistance and ductility.
Applications of AMS 5863
- Aerospace structural panels and fabricated components
- Corrosion-resistant sheet and plate for defense equipment
- High-strength parts for power generation systems
- Industrial components requiring fatigue resistance and structural stability
What is Custom 450 Stainless Steel ?
Custom 450 is a precipitation hardened martensitic stainless steel alloy that is melted in AOD+ESR melt type. Custom 450 per AMS 5763 can be used in the annealed condition or can be heat treated to achieve a specific temper. This alloy has improved transverse properties making it suitable in many aerospace and power generation applications.
