AMS 6932 - 6Al-4V ELI Titanium Bars, Forgings and Forging Stock (Annealed)
AMS 6932 describes aerospace-grade material for the 6Al-4V ELI grade of titanium alloy, available as bars, forgings, and forging stock in the annealed condition. This is a refined version of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy with less oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon to improve ductility and fracture toughness.
The ELI grade of the alloy described in AMS 6932 is designed to be used in applications where toughness and crack growth resistance are important. It resists low-temperature and high-stress conditions better than standard 6Al-4V, and annealing provides good mechanical properties with good machinability and formability.
Applications of AMS 6932
AMS 6932 is commonly used in high-performance and safety-critical environments:
- Aerospace: Structural components requiring high toughness
- Defense: Mission-critical parts exposed to dynamic stress
- Cryogenic systems: Components operating at low temperatures
- Industrial: High-integrity forged and machined parts
What is 6Al-4V Titanium ?
6Al-4V titanium, also known as Ti-6Al-4V or grade 5 titanium, remains the top titanium alloy in the aerospace industry. This is because it has been recognized for its strength-to-weight properties, corrosion resistance, and reliability in both ambient and elevated temperatures.
