AMS 5528
AMS 5528 is the SAE Aerospace Material Specification for 17-7PH (UNS S17700) stainless steel sheet, strip, and plate in Condition A (solution annealed). Condition A provides maximum formability for stamping, forming, and deep drawing operations prior to precipitation hardening to Conditions TH1050 or RH950 to achieve final strength up to 200 ksi.
17-7PH contains 17% chromium, 7% nickel, and 1.2% aluminum. It is widely used for aerospace springs, clips, brackets, and structural sheet metal components where high fatigue strength with moderate corrosion resistance is required.
AMS 5528 covers sheet thicknesses from 0.001″ to 0.125″ in Condition A. After forming, components are precipitation hardened: TH1050 (transform at 1400°F, age at 1050°F) for 150 ksi UTS; RH950 (refrigerate at -100°F, age at 950°F) for 200 ksi UTS. Grain size and flatness tolerance per specification.
