AMS 5632 - 440FSE Stainless Steel Bars, Wire, and Forgings
AMS 5632 provides the specification for 440FSE Stainless Steel, which is a free-machining, corrosion-resistant martensitic stainless steel (also known as SAE 51440F). This material is melted using the AOD process and incorporates selenium to improve machinability and minimize tool wear during the manufacturing process. This material is used in service where non-galling, non-seizing performance is required. This requires maximum hardness, maximum strength, and an excellent surface finish.
Typical Applications of AMS 5632
440FSE Stainless Steel to AMS 5632 is commonly used in:
- Precision fasteners and fittings
- Valve stems and pump shafts
- Aerospace machined components
- Surgical and dental instruments
- Bearings, bushings, and general-purpose hardware
What is 440FSE STAINLESS STEEL
440FSE is a high carbon martensitic stainless steel that is AOD melted. This alloy is considered a free machining grade because of the added Selenium creating a better machinability version of similar grades 440A stainless and 440C stainless. This grade is suitable for non-galling and non-seizing applications. This alloy is often considered for general machined parts requiring higher hardness values than other free machining grades such as 420F.
440 STAINLESS STEEL SPECIFICATIONS
440A Stainless Steel
440A is a high-carbon martensitic stainless steel, AOD melted for refined quality and consistency. It contains slightly less carbon than 440B and 440C
440C Stainless Steel
440C is the hardest and most wear-resistant grade in the 440 series due to its highest carbon content. It achieves excellent dimensional stability and superior bearing performance after hardening.
440FSE STAINLESS STEEL
This grade is suitable for non-galling and non-seizing applications. This alloy is often considered for general machined parts requiring higher hardness values than other free machining grades such as 420F.
