TECHNICAL INFORMATION FOR AMS 5773
Custom 450, a premium aircraft grade martensitic stainless steel, is discussed in AMS 5773. This steel is known for excellent corrosion resistance. Custom 450 is a high-performance alloy that is supplied as bars, wire, forgings, mechanical tubing, flash welded rings, and stock that is used for forging or making rings. This alloy is precipitation hardenable and solution heat treatable. It is produced using the Consumable Electrode Remelted (CE/ESR) method, which ensures excellent metallurgical properties, chemical composition, and properties. This alloy consists of 15% Chromium, 6.5% Nickel, 0.75% Molybdenum, 0.30% Niobium (Cb), and 1.5% Copper.
Applications of AMS 5773
- Aerospace structural components and landing gear
- High-strength fasteners, shafts, and bushings
- Precision mechanical tubing and industrial tooling
- Flash-welded rings for aerospace and defense applications
What is Custom 450 Stainless Steel ?
Custom 450 of Carpenter Technology Corporation represent martensitic, age-hardenable stainless steel alloys. These are produced through patented processes that offer enhanced corrosion resistance, moderate strength, and excellent machinability. These are generally supplied in the annealed condition, and in most instances, no special treatment is required.
