TECHNICAL INFORMATION FOR AMS 5860
AMS 5860 lists a high-strength steel alloy, Custom 455, which offers resistance to corrosion and mild heat. It is available in sheet, strip, and plate forms, and the precipitation hardenable alloy has a composition that includes multiple melting operations and a solution heat treatment for a uniform composition, high strength, and excellent resistance to corrosion. It contains 12% Chromium, 8.5% Nickel, 0.30% Niobium (Cb), 1.1% Titanium, and 2.0% Copper for good hardenability and high strength for use in the aerospace, defense, and industrial industries.
Applications of AMS 5860
- Aerospace structural panels and high-strength airframe components
- Corrosion-resistant industrial plates and strips
- Heat-resistant components for power generation
- Fabricated sheet and plate for defense and critical mechanical assemblies
What is Custom 455 Stainless Steel ?
The registered trademarks of Carpenter Technology Corporation Custom 455 is martensitic age-hardenable stainless steels. These materials are developed using patented processes that produce these materials with better corrosion resistance, strength, and machinability. These materials are generally supplied in the annealed condition. For most applications, no further heat treatment is required.
