AMS 6512 Maraging Steel
AMS 6512 is the spec that describes the requirements for C250 maraging steel, which is a high-level aircraft alloy that can be provided as bars, forgings, mechanical tubing, and rings. It is produced using consumable electrode vacuum melting and is provided in the annealed condition before aging heat treating.
This spec describes the chemistry, melting practice, heat treating condition, and quality requirements of maraging steel used in the aerospace industry.
Typical Applications of AMS 5612
AMS 6512 C250 maraging steel is widely used in aerospace and high-performance mechanical systems where extremely high strength is required.
Typical applications include:
• Aircraft landing gear components
• Aerospace structural hardware
• High-strength shafting
• Actuators and mechanical systems
• Tooling and die equipment
What is C250 Maraging Steel ?
C250 maraging steel is part of the 18% nickel maraging steel family, designed to provide extremely high strength combined with good toughness and dimensional stability. These alloys achieve their mechanical strength through aging heat treatment rather than carbon hardening, which helps maintain excellent machinability and structural integrity.
