MS 342 - 6Al-4V Titanium Alloy (Lockheed Martin)
MS 342 is the Lockheed Material Standard for 6Al-4V Titanium Alloy, used on Lockheed aerospace programs. The MS-series specifications cover material procurement requirements for Lockheed Martin programs where the internal MS designation is called out on engineering drawings.
Material per MS 342 meets the same chemistry and mechanical property requirements as the corresponding AMS specification, with the addition of Lockheed’s supplier qualification, testing, and traceability requirements established for their defense and commercial aerospace programs.
6Al-4V is recommended for use at temperatures from -350° to 750°F (-210° to 400°C). Applications outside this temperature range are possible in certain situations. The alloy is weldable. Complex shapes can be made via hot forming. It machines like an austenitic stainless steel.
