AMS 4971 - 6Al-6V-2Sn Titanium Alloy Bars, Billets, and Forgings (Annealed)
AMS 4971 is the specification for 6Al-6V-2Sn Titanium Alloy bars, billets, and forgings in the annealed condition. The annealed condition provides good machinability and formability for stock that will be subsequently heat treated to the solution treated and aged (STA) condition to develop maximum strength for service.
6Al-6V-2Sn (Ti-662) bars and billets per AMS 4971 are used as starting stock for machined airframe fittings, wing attachments, landing gear structural members, and other primary structure applications where the STA condition is required.
6Al-6V-2Sn titanium alloy offers higher strength than 6Al-4V in the solution treated and aged condition, making it the preferred choice for the most highly stressed aerospace structural applications where standard 6Al-4V STA cannot meet design requirements.
