AMS 5845 - MP35N Cobalt-Nickel Alloy
MP35N, as specified by AMS 5845, is an ultra-high-strength alloy bar with toughness and superior corrosion resistance. It’s a non-magnetic alloy containing nickel, cobalt, chromium, and molybdenum. It has an ultimate tensile strength of up to 300 ksi (2068 MPa).
This specification covers MP35N alloy bars that have been subjected to a solution heat treatment, work hardening, and aging. It’s used in critical aerospace, marine, and industrial parts where strength and resistance to corrosion are of major importance.
How does AMS 5845 differ from AMS 5844
- MP35N per AMS 5845 is a heat treated version compared to AMS 5844, AMS 5845 has been Solution heat treated @ 1900-1925°F for 4 to 8 hours, Work Strengthened & Aged @ 1000-1200°F for 4 hours
Applications of AMS 5845 MP35N
MP35N per AMS 5845 is used in high-performance components where reliability is critical:
- Aerospace structural components (airframes, tie rods, leading edge strips)
- Space Shuttle and spacecraft components
- Petrochemical and marine equipment
- Submersibles and underwater systems
- Any application demanding maximum strength and corrosion resistance
The alloy’s combination of work-strengthening and aging ensures it retains its properties in both high-stress mechanical and corrosive environments.

Certified Material for Critical Service
MP35N is widely certified for critical service applications, ensuring reliability in aerospace, medical, oil & gas, and high-performance industrial environments. All supplied MP35N products come with full traceability and certification, including:
- Chemical Composition Certificates: Confirming cobalt, nickel, chromium, and molybdenum content per AMS and SPS specifications.
- Mechanical Test Reports: Tensile strength, hardness, and elongation verified according to AMS 5844, AMS 5758, and SPS-M-646.
- Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Ultrasonic and visual inspections per AMS-STD-2154 to ensure defect-free material.
- Heat Treatment Certification: Verification of precipitation hardening and work strengthening procedures.
This ensures MP35N meets the highest standards for critical, high-stress, and corrosion-prone applications, making it suitable for mission-critical aerospace components, surgical implants, and offshore equipment.
