BMS7-171 - Waspaloy (Boeing Material Specification for Aerospace Forgings
BMS7-171 Waspaloy is Boeing-approved; it is a nickel-base superalloy with outstanding properties for elevated temperature strength, oxidation resistance, and solid corrosion resistance. This specification covers forgings, bars, and stock made by consumable electrode or vacuum-induction melting with Boeing’s stringent requirements for aerospace quality.
The chemical composition of Waspaloy is closely controlled: 19% chromium, 14% cobalt, 4% molybdenum, 3% titanium, and 1.3% aluminum. This combination provides outstanding mechanical properties, thermal stability, and creep resistance up to 650°C (1200°F) for critical rotating parts in gas turbine engines and aerospace engines.
