6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo Titanium per AMS 6905
6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo per AMS 6905 Titanium (also known as 6-2-4-2 Titanium) is an alpha-beta titanium alloy capable of being heat treated to higher strengths in greater section sizes that 6Al-4V. Widely used in forged components, 6-2-4-2 beta forged material has enhanced strength, ductility and a combination of good low-cycle fatigue and fatigue-crack growth resistance. This alloy is used in the intermediate compressor stages of turbine engines for disks and blades, seals and for airframe parts.
What is called out in AMS 6905?
The AMS 6905 specification covers 6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo titanium alloy in the form of bars and forgings up through 3.000 inches (76.20 mm), inclusive, in diameter or least distance between parallel sides with a maximum cross-sectional area of 10 in2 (64.5 cm2), and forging stock of any size. The condition of AMS 6905 calls for Duplex Annealed. Duplex annealing alters the shapes, sizes, and distributions of phases to those required for improved creep resistance or fracture toughness.
Applications of 6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo per AMS 4975
STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS
In the fuselage, 6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo may be used in the manufacture of various structural components, such as beams, frames, and stringers. These components help to give the fuselage its strength and stiffness and are responsible for resisting loads and stresses that are imposed on the aircraft during flight.
ENGINES
In an aircraft engine, 6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo may be used in the manufacture of various structural components, such as turbine blades, discs, and vanes. These components are subjected to high temperatures and stresses during operation, and the use of 6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo helps to ensure that they are strong and able to withstand these conditions.
OTHER MECHANICAL COMPONENTS
In a missile, 6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo may be used in the manufacture of structural components, such as the body and fins, as well as in the guidance system and propulsion system. The structural components of a missile must be strong and able to withstand the stresses of flight, and the use of 6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo helps to ensure that these components are able to do so.
ROUND BAR
6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo Round Bar diameters range from 0.125″ to 14.00″ diameter.
FLAT BAR
6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo Flat Bar comes in a variety of thicknesses and widths. For more information please request a quote.
