AMS 4930 - 6Al-4V Titanium Alloy Bars, Wire, Forgings, and Rings (ELI Annealed)
AMS 4930 includes the aerospace and medical grade 6Al-4V titanium alloy in bars, wire, forgings, flash welded rings, and stock for forgings. This spec is an Extra Low Interstitial (ELI) grade, which means that the amount of oxygen, iron, and other interstitials is decreased. By doing so, the alloy benefits with increased ductility, fracture toughness, and fatigue properties, while retaining the strength that 6Al-4V is known for.
What does ELI stand for ?
ELI stands for Extra Low Interstitial. Reduced interstitial elements in oxygen and iron improve ductility and fracture toughness while maintaining strength.
This leads to 6Al-4V per AMS 4930 usually being applied to the medical industry for implants although it does not exclude its use from the Aerospace and Defense industries.
Applications of AMS 4930 Titanium Alloy
AMS 4930 is versatile and critical in industries where strength, ductility, and toughness are paramount:
- Medical Industry: Orthopedic implants, surgical instruments, and prosthetics
- Aerospace: Engine components, airframe parts, and structural hardware
- Defense: Military aircraft components, high-performance structural assemblies
