AMS 5519 - 301 Stainless Steel Full Hard
AMS 5519 lists 301 stainless steel in the Full Hard condition, obtained through extensive cold working for increased strength, hardness, and wear resistance. This austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel possesses some of the highest tensile strengths of all the 300 series stainless steels yet provides formability and corrosion resistance.
Properties of AMS 5519
In Full Hard, 301 stainless steel has been heavily cold worked, and this has resulted in excellent mechanical properties. It has a minimum tensile strength of around 185,000 psi and a yield strength exceeding 140,000 psi, making it suitable for use in situations where high rigidity is required.
Key attributes include:
- Exceptional hardness and strength from heavy cold working
- High wear resistance with retained ductility
- Good corrosion resistance in atmospheric and mildly corrosive environments
- Partially magnetic after cold reduction
- Excellent surface finish and dimensional stability
What is 301 Stainless steel ?
301 is an austenitic chromium-nickel based stainless steel that is non-magnetic in the annealed condition but becomes magnetic when cold worked. The high strength and corrosion resistance of this grade of stainless steel makes it useful for a variety of applications.
