AMS 5515 - 302 Stainless Steel Sheet, Annealed
AMS 5515 is the specification by the SAE for 302 stainless steel in sheet or strip form, in the annealed condition. This steel has a wonderful balance of corrosion resistance, ductility, and strength. This steel is used in the aerospace, chemical, and other industries that require a high formability steel.
Type 302 is a chromium-nickel steel alloy containing 18% chromium and 8% nickel. This steel is austenitic in character. In the annealed condition, this steel is non-magnetic, but becomes magnetic after cold working. This steel cannot be hardened by heating, but cold reduction work hardening occurs.
Difference Between AMS 5515 and AMS 5516
The main difference between the two specifications, AMS 5515 and AMS 5516, is the percentage of nickel they contain. The percentage of nickel in the alloy designated by the specification AMS 5515 is approximately 0.5% less, which improves its ductility slightly and reduces the rate at which it work-hardens slightly.
What is 302 Stainless Steel ?
302 Stainless Steel is a chromium-nickel austenitic metal that is famous for its corrosion resistance, strength, and ductility. It is used in both annealed and cold-worked conditions, making it an extremely useful metal for numerous forming operations.
