AMS 5501 – 304 Stainless Steel
AMS 5501 refers to 304 stainless steel when it is in its cold rolled condition. This austenitic chromium-nickel alloy has been known for its excellent corrosion resistance, good ductility, and excellent formability. In its annealed condition, it is non-magnetic but may be slightly magnetic after being cold worked.
Cold rolling improves the material’s yield strength and surface finish, making AMS 5501 excellent for applications where precision and strength are required along with good appearance.
Product Forms & Size Range
304 Stainless Steel per AMS 5501 Sheet Thicknesses range from 0.0010″ to .1250″ Thick.
Characteristics of AMS 5501
- Composition: 18–20% Chromium, 8–10.5% Nickel
- Structure: Austenitic, non-hardenable by heat treatment
- Condition: Cold rolled for improved tensile properties and dimensional control
- Magnetic Response: Essentially non-magnetic in annealed state; slightly magnetic when cold worked
