TECHNICAL INFORMATION FOR A286 PER AMS 5525
A286, according to AMS 5525, is a high-strength, austenitic iron-nickel-chromium alloy that contains molybdenum and titanium, providing the best corrosion resistance and adequate mechanical properties at high temperatures, up to 1,300°F (704°C), making it stand out from other high-temperature alloys.
This material is processed by vacuum induction melting and remelting, or VAR and ESR, providing stability in its chemical composition and excellent mechanical properties, making A286 a preferred choice in a number of industries, such as aerospace, industrial gas turbines, and offshore oil and gas service.
Applications of AMS 5525
- AIRCRAFT COMPONENTS
Used in aircraft turbines, afterburners, and fuel nozzles where high strength and oxidation resistance are required.
- INDUSTRIAL GAS TURBINES
Ideal for high-temperature turbine components, offering durability under continuous stress and heat.
- OFFSHORE OIL & GAS EQUIPMENT
Selected for components exposed to extreme heat and mechanical stress, sometimes replacing titanium in high-heat critical parts.
What is A286 Stainless Steel ?
A286 Stainless Steel is a Ni-Cr austenitic precipitation-hardened iron-based steel that is one of the original superalloys. As a result of its status as a superalloy, A286 has been used for applications requiring high strength and corrosion resistance up to 1,300°F (704°C), and for cryogenic applications. Because of its relatively low alloy content and low-cost formulation it is an excellent choice for mainly Aerospace applications. This super alloy is produced by vacuum induction melting (VIM), coupled with vacuum arc (VAR) or electroslag (ESR) remelting.
