B50TF21 - GE Aviation Titanium Alloy Specification
The B50TF21 material specification by GE Aviation is primarily a specification for titanium alloys. It is closely related to the 6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo titanium alloy. It is used by the GE Aviation turbine engine programs to specify the material requirements.
What is 6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo Titanium ?
6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo Titanium (also known as 6-2-4-2 Titanium) is an alpha-beta titanium alloy capable of being heat treated to higher strengths in greater section sizes that 6Al-4V. Widely used in forged components, 6-2-4-2 beta forged material has enhanced strength, ductility and a combination of good low-cycle fatigue and fatigue-crack growth resistance. This alloy is used in the intermediate compressor stages of turbine engines for disks and blades, seals and for airframe parts.
Applications of 6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo per B50TF21
In the fuselage, 6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo may be used in the manufacture of various structural components, such as beams, frames, and stringers. These components help to give the fuselage its strength and stiffness and are responsible for resisting loads and stresses that are imposed on the aircraft during flight.
In an aircraft engine, (6-2-4-2) Titanium may be used in the manufacture of various structural components, such as turbine blades, discs, and vanes. These components are subjected to high temperatures and stresses during operation, and the use of 6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo helps to ensure that they are strong and able to withstand these conditions.
In a missile, (6-2-4-2) Titanium may be used in the manufacture of structural components, such as the body and fins, as well as in the guidance system and propulsion system. The structural components of a missile must be strong and able to withstand the stresses of flight, and the use of 6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo helps to ensure that these components are able to do so.
