AMS 4900 - Commercially Pure Titanium Sheet, Strip, and Plate
AMS 4900 is the SAE specification for commercially pure titanium sheet, strip, and plate in the annealed condition. This specification covers the chemistry, mechanical property, and testing requirements for unalloyed titanium flat products for aerospace, chemical processing, marine, and industrial applications where corrosion resistance, formability, and weldability are the primary material requirements.
Sheet and plate per AMS 4900 offer excellent resistance to corrosive environments including saltwater, chlorine, and oxidizing acids. Material is used in aerospace firewalls, exhaust shields, heat exchanger plates, chemical plant ducting, and medical device structures where the higher strength of alloyed grades is not required.
6Al-4V is recommended for use at temperatures from -350° to 750°F (-210° to 400°C). Applications outside this temperature range are possible in certain situations. The alloy is weldable. Complex shapes can be made via hot forming. It machines like an austenitic stainless steel.
Applications of AMS 4900 Commercially Pure Titanium
- Aircraft Turbine Engine Components
- Aircraft Structural Components
- Aerospace Fasteners
- Formula 1 Parts
- Medical Devices
- Marine Applications
- Ship Propellers
