AMS 4942 - Commercially Pure Titanium Bars
AMS 4942 is the SAE specification for commercially pure titanium bars in the annealed condition. This specification covers the chemistry, mechanical properties, and testing requirements for unalloyed titanium round, square, and rectangular bar stock for machined components in corrosion-resistant service applications.
Commercially pure titanium bars per AMS 4942 are used for valve components, pump shafts, fasteners, and precision-machined parts in chemical processing, desalination, marine, and medical implant applications where maximum corrosion resistance and biocompatibility are the primary design requirements.
6Al-4V is recommended for use at temperatures from -350° to 750°F (-210° to 400°C). Applications outside this temperature range are possible in certain situations. The alloy is weldable. Complex shapes can be made via hot forming. It machines like an austenitic stainless steel.
