316 Stainless Steel per AMS 5584
AMS 5584 specification covers 316 stainless steel seamless and welded hydraulic tubing that is corrosion resistant as well as heat resistant. It is cold-drawn to 1/8 hard condition. The tubing material used is Type 316, a combination of chromium, nickel, and molybdenum.
Applications of AMS 5584
AMS 5584 tubing is specified for critical applications that require resistance to corrosion, strength, and close tolerancing.
- In aerospace hydraulic systems, it is the conduit through which hydraulic fluids flow while under pressure, stress, and possible corrosive action.
- For oil and gas plant equipment, it covers both seamless and welded tubing for offshore and onshore plants that must resist corrosive agents.
- For the chemical and petrochemical industries, it provides piping and hydraulic systems that must operate in acidic and chloride-rich environments.
- For industrial machinery, it provides hydraulic systems with close tolerancing for high-pressure applications in power generation plants, processing plants, and manufacturing facilities.
What Is 316 Stainless Steel ?
316 Stainless Steel is the standard molybdenum-bearing grade, second in importance to 304 amongst the austenitic stainless steels. The molybdenum gives 316 better overall corrosion resistant properties than 304 Stainless, particularly higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments
