CMMP027 - 6Al-4V ELI Titanium Alloy Forgings (Cessna/Textron)
CMMP027 is the Cessna Material and Manufacturing Process specification for 6Al-4V ELI (Extra Low Interstitial) Titanium Alloy forgings. The ELI grade has reduced oxygen, carbon, and nitrogen content compared to standard 6Al-4V, providing enhanced ductility, impact toughness, and fracture toughness — properties required for fatigue-critical structural forgings on Cessna and Textron aviation programs.
Forgings per CMMP027 satisfy the Cessna/Textron supplier qualification and traceability requirements in addition to the ELI chemistry and mechanical property requirements of the equivalent SAE AMS specification. This specification is called out on Cessna engineering drawings for primary structural forgings, attachment fittings, and other fracture-critical components in light aircraft and business jet structures.
6Al-4V is recommended for use at temperatures from -350° to 750°F (-210° to 400°C). Applications outside this temperature range are possible in certain situations. The alloy is weldable. Complex shapes can be made via hot forming. It machines like an austenitic stainless steel.
