DMS 1592 - 6Al-4V Titanium Alloy Sheet, Strip, and Plate (Boeing Long Beach, Annealed)
DMS 1592 is the Boeing Long Beach Division Material Specification for 6Al-4V Titanium Alloy sheet, strip, and plate in the annealed condition. Originating from the Douglas Aircraft Company Long Beach facility (now Boeing Commercial Airplanes — Long Beach), this specification covers titanium sheet and plate procurement for C-17 Globemaster III, MD-series, and other Long Beach–origin aerospace programs where the DMS 1592 designation appears on engineering drawings.
Material per DMS 1592 is equivalent in chemistry and mechanical properties to AMS 4931 annealed sheet, with the addition of Boeing Long Beach supplier qualification, NDT, and traceability requirements. Both designations are commonly listed as acceptable alternatives on Boeing Long Beach engineering drawings for structural skins, floor panels, and formed airframe components.
6Al-4V is recommended for use at temperatures from -350° to 750°F (-210° to 400°C). Applications outside this temperature range are possible in certain situations. The alloy is weldable. Complex shapes can be made via hot forming. It machines like an austenitic stainless steel.
Applications of DMS 1592 6Al-4V Titanium
- Aircraft Turbine Engine Components
- Aircraft Structural Components
- Aerospace Fasteners
- Formula 1 Parts
- Medical Devices
- Marine Applications
