DMS 1890 - 6Al-4V Titanium Alloy Sheet, Strip, and Plate (Boeing Long Beach, STA)
DMS 1890 is the Boeing Long Beach Division Material Specification for 6Al-4V Titanium Alloy sheet, strip, and plate in the solution treated and aged (STA) condition. This is the STA companion to DMS 1592, covering sheet and plate that requires the elevated strength provided by STA heat treatment for Boeing Long Beach structural programs.
STA sheet and plate per DMS 1890 provides significantly higher tensile and yield strength than annealed DMS 1592 material, making it the preferred choice for structural skins and panels where maximum strength-to-weight ratio is the primary design driver. Both DMS 1592 (annealed) and DMS 1890 (STA) qualify material to Boeing Long Beach supplier requirements beyond the base AMS 4930 STA specification.
6Al-4V is recommended for use at temperatures from -350° to 750°F (-210° to 400°C). Applications outside this temperature range are possible in certain situations. The alloy is weldable. Complex shapes can be made via hot forming. It machines like an austenitic stainless steel.
