321 Stainless Steel per AMS 5559
The standard, AMS 5559, has a specification for the 321 stainless steel, an alloy that is corrosion- and high-temperature-resistant, has a thin wall, and is in the form of welded tubing that has been solution heat treated. This is a titanium-stabilized austenitic stainless steel that is used for high-temperature service, has excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion, and has oxidation resistance up to 1500 °F (816 °C).
Applications of AMS 5559
AMS 5559 321 stainless steel tubing has wide applicability in aerospace, automotive, and industrial environments, which require components to operate continuously under high temperatures, vibrations, and corrosive gas environments.
Some of its uses are as follows:
– Aerospace: Thin wall ducts, manifolds, hydraulic lines, pneumatic lines, exhaust systems, heat shields.
– Automotive & Motorsport: Exhaust systems for high-performance vehicles.
– Chemical & Petrochemical: Process lines, heat exchangers in mildly reducing or oxidizing environments.
– Power Generation: Gas turbine tubing, heat recovery systems.
What is 321 Stainless Steel ?
