MIL-T-8606 - Stainless Steel Tubing, Corrosion and Heat-Resistant
The MIL-T-8606 was an old specification for stainless steel tubing. It included all types of tubing made of stabilized corrosion and heat-resistant stainless steel in an annealed condition. It was a specification for ensuring that tubing in defense and aeronautic equipment could resist corrosion and maintain its mechanical properties even at high temperatures.
Status: The MIL-T-8606 specification has been replaced by a number of AMS specifications. These specifications include AMS 5560, AMS 5563, AMS 5564, AMS 5565, AMS 5566, AMS 5567, AMS 5569, AMS 5570, AMS 5571, AMS 5639, and AMS 5668. These current specifications for tubing made of 321 stainless steel and other stabilized grades of stainless steel ensure better corrosion resistance and mechanical properties.
Superseding AMS Specifications of MIL-T-8606
The following AMS standards replaced MIL-T-8606 for various tubing applications:
- AMS 5560, 5565, 5569: Hydraulic tubing, thin-wall and standard
- AMS 5563, 5566, 5564, 5567, 5571: Seamless and welded tubing
- AMS 5570, 5639, 5668: Special heat-resistant and corrosion-resistant tubing
These AMS specifications ensure consistent quality, precise tolerances, and superior resistance to oxidation and intergranular corrosion, making them the preferred choice for modern aerospace designs.
What is 321 Stainless Steel ?
321 Stainless Steel is a titanium stabilized chromium nickel austenitic stainless steel with corrosion resistance similar to 304/304L.
