MIL-T-6737 - Corrosion and Heat-Resistant Stainless Steel Welded Tubing
MIL-T-6737 was the previous specification for stainless steel welded tubing that focused on delivering actual performance for corrosion and heat resistance for aerospace and other industries. It requires a type of stabilized austenitic stainless steel that should be in an annealed condition to ensure that it would perform well when exposed to high temperatures and corrosive media.
Status: MIL-T-6737 has been replaced by AMS 5575 and AMS 5576 specifications, which require stainless steel welded tubing made from type 321 stainless steel that has enhanced properties for corrosion resistance, mechanical properties, and tighter tolerance limits. These specifications for stainless steel welded tubing are now widely used for aerospace and defense industries.
Superseding AMS Specifications
- AMS 5575: 321 stainless steel, welded tubing, solution heat-treated
- AMS 5576: 321 stainless steel, welded tubing, solution heat-treated, thin-wall
These modern AMS standards ensure consistent quality, precise dimensions, and reliable performance, fully replacing MIL-T-6737 for new aerospace and industrial designs.
What is 321 Stainless Steel ?
321 Stainless Steel is a titanium stabilized chromium nickel austenitic stainless steel with corrosion resistance similar to 304/304L.
