PS017000E - IAI Heat Treatment Specification for Nickel & Cobalt Base Alloys
PS017000E describes an IAI specification indicating how nickel- and cobalt-based superalloys need to be heat-treated for the aerospace industry. This specification sets the requirements for jet engine, propulsion system, and temperature-resistant structure alloys to attain the materials needed for mechanical properties, ductility, and corrosion resistance.
Purpose of PS017000E
The IAI PS017000E specification indicates specific heat treatment methods which aim at:
- Enhancing its own mechanical characteristics, or its tensile strength and fatigue endurance.
- Control the grain structure to ensure the dimensions remain constant when exposed to heat.
- Provide consistent hardness and microstructures in one batch after another.
- Retain corrosion and oxidation resistance for increased service life. The tightly controlled processes ensure compliance with the high performance standards required of components and parts used in the military and business sector of the aerospace industry.
Weldability of NICKEL 718
Because of a relatively slow aging reaction rate, welding Nickel 718 does not present the problems associated with most other high-temperature precipitation hardening alloys. INCONEL 718 may be welded in either the annealed or precipitation hardened condition. Accordingly, the alloy may be repair welded without difficulty.
