BMS7-144 - Boeing Specification for INCONEL 718 Forgings
BMS7-144 is a Boeing Material Specification that covers nickel-base superalloy forgings, alloy INCONEL 718 (UNS N07718). It defines the chemical composition, mechanical property, and requirements for heat treating INCONEL 718 forgings used for jet engines and for fasteners in high-speed airframes.
According to BMS7-144, INCONEL 718 offers outstanding high temperature strength, excellent creep resistance, and good oxidation resistance; all of which make the alloy highly dependable for Boeing regarding any crucial aerospace applications.
Material Characteristics
Nickel 718 is a precipitation-hardenable superalloy with a balanced combination of strength, ductility, and corrosion resistance.
Forgings produced to BMS7-144 must meet Boeing’s strict quality and performance standards, typically including:
- Yield strength and creep-rupture resistance up to 1300°F (704°C)
- Oxidation resistance up to 1800°F (982°C)
- Superior fatigue and stress corrosion performance
- Excellent weldability and formability
